Lil' Girl DecoArt Media Journal Page

I had been using my open journal as a 'catch all' page for leftover paint and what-not and it occurred to me that I could use the mess as the beginnings of  a mix-media wonderfulness!  I threw a layer of gesso over the whole page and squirted some Magenta DecoArt Media mister on the wet mess....and then I added more water to the already wet  'wet-mess'.

It wasn't messy enough so I added Purple Media mister and sprayed water over that.  I used my heat tool but some of the puddles were too puddly so I dabbed them up with a Starbucks napkin :)…….then I covered it all up with Decoart Media gesso...again.

I scraped some squiggles into the wet gesso...

The scraper tools are from DecoArt.  You get several different kinds in a pack.  I love them; a new take on the handy dandy credit card.

I sprayed magenta Media mister into the squiggles and some water too.

Look at all the lovely colors!!  I put them in dauber bottles I found at the dollar store.  Handy.
Banana Cream Americana acrylic is perfect for a base skin tone.  I used Hi-lite flesh over that.  Nothing complicated, just using the daubers.

After that a lil' bit of Sea Breeze for her dress.  I then used the edge of the sponge with the hi-lite flesh to draw the arms and legs.

Mermaid Tail in the background helps her to 'pop'.  Soften it up with laguna

I used a sponge dauber and Neon Lights in Peach Punch to add some dots to the page.
DecoArt sunflower stencil and coral …..
Orange Twist...
Green Apple...
Add some stems with watered down Citron green and some leaves to the stems.
I dabbed a bit of Sea Breeze for her eyes and Dragonfruit for her lips...I also used the end of a cotton swab to add some white petals to the pink dots for cute lil' flowers.
I put another layer of Hi-lite Flesh on her face...let some of the color show through.
I used a bit of the same colors I previously used for her features and watered them down.  I applied lightly with a small round brush #2.  I added more flowers and used a white gel pen to add a bit of detail to her eyes and dress and loose lines to the flower stems.  I used a black pen to darken her eyes and to add squiggles to bottom of page. I loosely wrote "Blessings all around...they abound"...and of course I couldn't resist the glasses.  They were from a sticker set at the dollar store :)
I hope you have fun with this project.
REMEMBER  this is mix-media and sometimes unpredictable.  Go with the flow and see what happens.  Happy mistakes often happen and the yucky ones......cover 'em up with gesso and spray misters!!
